Meccano Mark 1 Passenger Carriage
This CAD model is my approximation of a British Railways Mark 1 passenger carriage. I modeled it based on photographs from the web and overall dimensions obtained from an old BR publication.
The Mark 1 coaches were the first standarized-design passenger carriages manufactured by British Railways following nationalization of the four railway companies remaining after the Railways Act 1921 was enacted. They were highly regarded for their durability and safety in the event of a crash or derailment. There were many different configurations including various seating arrangements, sleepers, restaurant/kitchen cars, and mail cars. Most of the Mark 1 coaches were replaced by newer Mark 2 and Mark 3 coaches in the 1970s and 80s, with the few remaining ones withdrawn from service in the 1990s.
An actual model of the passenger carriage would be about 55 inches (140 cm) long, or approximately 1/14th scale.
