Meccano 4-4-0 Passenger Locomotive and Tender

This CAD model is my modified version of a Meccano 4-4-0 Passenger Locomotive and Tender (Model No. 10.12) from 1971. It’s based on a Southern Railway V Class (or “Schools Class”) locomotive, specifically the No. 926 Repton  which entered service in 1934. The Repton has been preserved and restored and is currently operating on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway heritage railroad in England.

It’s typical of a type of steam locomotive that was popular in Great Britain in the early to mid-1900s for hauling fast passenger trains. It even operated on the now defunct Cape Breton Steam Railway in Nova Scotia, Canada, for a few years in the 1970s. The passenger carriage is based on a British Railways Mark 1 coach and was modeled based on photographs from the web and overall dimensions obtained from an old BR publication.

The model locomotive includes an electric motor, gearing, and chain to drive the main wheels and linkage. The actual loco and tender model is about 50 inches (127 cm) long, and the passenger carriage is about 51 inches (130 cm) long.
