Downdraft Sanding Table

This small downdraft sanding table was a welcome addition to my basement woodworking shop. I needed to do some wood sanding with an orbital sander but didn’t want the dust going all over the place. So I built this small downdraft table that I can connect to my shop-vac and dust separator.

I used pegboard with 1/4-inch diameter holes. The shop-vac only produces about 150 cu ft/min air flow so I kept the table small enough to provide a decent downdraft velocity (about 2500-3000 ft/min through the holes) while still providing enough usable working area for my needs. The side baffles help to contain the dust. I kept the ends open so I can sand pieces longer than the table. Not perfect but it does help to keep the dust down.
